Dear Representative and Senators,
I am writing this letter to express my sense that the nuclear technology deal the President recently struck with India is not a wise decision; and to urge you to reject this pact when it comes before congress.
My concern does not arise from any animosity or distrust for the nation of India. To the contrary, I believe India would prove a valuable ally. My concern is what this deal means in terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the message it sends to other nations seeking nuclear technology, or possessing nuclear technology to sell.
I am sure your understanding of the NNPT far exceeds mine. But, as I understand it, a Nuclear Weapons State (like us) trading nuclear technology with a nation outside of the NNPT, will break the treaty — and possibly US law in the process.
I fear the results of a broken NNPT would be disastrous. Again, I urge you to reject the President’s nuclear agreement with India.
I thank you for your time, and look forward to your response on this matter.
Sincerely,
Your Constituent Montag
Very nice, Montag.
