The Politics of Taking One's Eye Off the Ball

February 8, 2007

1. It’s dueling non binding (and therefore presumably ineffectual) resolutions in congress, up is down, yes is no, and one wonders how congress gets anything done. — 7 GOP Senators Back War Debate“There’s no doubt in my mind that the dialogue here in Washington strengthens our democracy. Period” … potential enemies may take some comfort from the rancor but … they “don’t have a clue how democracy works.” —General Pace. (So I guess I’m not the only one doesn’t know how congress werks.
2. From the Wonderful Folks Who Brought You IraqBush can count on the military to carry out such a mission [massive air strike against Iran] even without congressional authorization. “If they write a plan like that and the president issues an execute order, the forces will execute it. He’s got the power to do that as commander-in-chief. We set that up during the Cold War. It may, after the fact, be considered illegal, or an impeachable offense, but if he orders them to do it, they will do it.” — Hey, congress, you got a minute?
3. Iran to hit U.S. interests if attacked…would respond by striking U.S. interests all over the world… — Shit, don’t they know they can’t get away with sassing US when we talk tough? There’s no backing down now from terroristical threats of terrorism like this. Thanks a lot, Iran, with your big mouth.
4. So John Edwards is [considering/has already] fired the two bloggers he just hired. He [should/should have] read Kung Fu Monkey first: I Stand With Amanda
