Seems like the immigration issue will figure prominently in the next election. I have to admit, I’m not really sure what my position is. There’s no doubt it hurts the labor force, but I don’t want walls built around my country, either. Pretty tough situation, though I’m sure the repubs will distill it down for the voters. How very nice of them.

I don’t know much about it, but my gut says: legalize ’em all. Once they are legal citizens, then employers will have to pay them minimum wage, overtime, provide for safety, allow workers to organize, etc. Then, if current citizens want to compete for those jobs there will be a level playing field.
For the right to make a major issue out of this is to appeal to a base racism. But I think as a party they are too conflicted over the issue and it may come back to bite them in the ass.
Naah. JR’s right, the cons will break it down nice and simple for us, until the debate becomes so emotionally charged, that it is devoid of meaning.
