I haven’t been following any major news outlets closely, but my general sense is that the release of new photos and information from inside Abu Ghraib isn’t generating a lot of reaction – is this because the U.S. government isn’t really commenting, possibly trying to defuse the situation by depriving a press-release-dependent “media” of any “hard information” (read: prepared quotes from Bush)?

    White House does “something.”
    Press reports on “something.”
WH gets pissy about how irresponsible it was to report on “something.”
Press gets trigger-shy about reporting on “anything” for fear of clowns the WH.

Having the WH pissed off at you is a problem especially when you’re a press-release-dependent “media” member afraid you might not get you’re official spin “hard information” before deadline.
