US assures Pak not to strike Iran — As Iran faces threat of being referred to the UN Security Council because of its controversial nuclear programme, the United States has conveyed to Pakistan that it would not use force to resolve the contentious issue. — I resent having to doubt the meaning of words all the time. But one could say these particular words while secretly counting on a ‘trusted ally’ to act with the desired force. Of course, one can say a lot of things and still claim that the words they speak are ‘technically’ truthful. —
