Red Sox–yankees: Starting Tonight
Remember this scene from last year’s American League Championship Series? So surreal and unsettling? So sad to see conflated with America’s pastime? So strange that that many cops could materialize, at a moment’s notice, right there on the diamond?
Well we got plenty more of that for you right here.
A deployment plan obtained by the newspaper calls for 876 officers and commanders to be on duty for each of three games starting Friday night.
Only 334 officers were deployed the night 21-year-old Emerson College student Victoria Snelgrove was killed last October when she was shot in the eye by a pepper pellet gun following a Red Sox victory over the Yankees.
To my brothers and sisters of Red Sox Nation: Party hard. I’ll be right there with you in spirit. But please, keep your head and keep it chill. Don’t create the rationale for this creeping police state to bring down the crushing boot. Because I don’t want to be right there with you getting shot — even if only in spirit.

One thing about that photo from last year: the riot police were brought in to police the rowdy fans throwing debris out onto the field… But they just lined up and watched the game. (In all fairness, maybe the guys down the first base line were watching the crowd along the third base line, and vice-versa.) =P
